22 words looked up, definitions read, copied and pasted. Mostly I somewhat knew their meaning and how they are used, just wanted to get some in-depth knowledge on definitions. I placed the list with definitions under the cut.

While I`m at it, I could put up a reminder on this list of 100 most beautiful words in English .


  • Gauche - awkward or lacking in social graces; bumbling; Skewed, not plane; Describing a torsion angle of 60°
  • Gaucheness - crudeness: an impolite manner that is vulgar and lacking tact or refinement; "the whole town was famous for its crudeness"
  • Profuselyin great quantity or abundance; in a profuse manner
  • Condolence - an expression of sympathy with another's grief; "they sent their condolences" ; ...of condolescence ; to condole
  • Jeopardy - danger of loss, harm, or failure
  • Fortitude - strength of mind that enables one to endure adversity with courage
  • Penance - voluntary self-punishment in order to atone for some wrongdoing
  • Prying - an excessively inquisitive person; Looking where one is not welcome; being nosey; To look closely and curiously at, peep
  • Petty - lacking importance or mean or ungenerous in small or trivial matters
  • Inexplicable - impossible to explain; not easily accounted for
  • Ordeal -trial by ordeal is a judicial practice by which the guilt or innocence of the accused is determined by subjecting them to a unpleasant, usually dangerous experience
  • Graze - break the skin (of a body part) by scraping
  • Entourage  - a group of attendants or associates, as of a person of rank or importance
  • Fatigue - temporary loss of strength and energy resulting from hard physical or mental work
  • Patronizing - offensively condescending
  • Reluctance - unwillingness to do something; Hesitancy in taking some action
  • Casual - appropriate for ordinary or routine occasions ; free-and-easy: natural and unstudied
  • Crude - unrefined: not refined or processed ; devoid of any qualifications or disguise or adornment ; not carefully or expertly made
  • Profane - not holy because unconsecrated or impure or defiled ; profanity - vulgar or irreverent speech or action
  • Common - having no special distinction or quality; widely known or commonly encountered; average or ordinary or usual
  • Fealty - allegiance: the loyalty that citizens owe to their country
  • Tedious - boring, monotonous, time consuming
